I surfed the Web and I assume that this is a pretty known issue, but there is not enough documentation to get around this. This error appears both on Pro Tools 9 and 10. I already tried to check the basics (reinstall drivers and Pro Tools, change computer, change USB port, disconnect external devices etc.) but nothing changed. This changed the problem, as I could set even 64, 128 and 256 samples buffer size, but they are unusable because of random glitches and spikes in the audio signal, so the problem still remains. I also tried to run the audio interface using ASIO4ALL drivers. Also, when set to "Maximum latency", the only buffer size shown by PT is 512, no other options.
If I set the buffer size to something else, Pro Tools won't even start: it returns the "Audio device is configured with an unsupported buffer size" error and then quits. This is bad for tracking, as latency is too high for me. Pro Tools seems to work only with "Maximum latency" set, which in Pro Tools' Playback engine window corresponds to 512 samples buffer. From its control panel, I am able to choose between some latency levels (aka buffer sizes I guess): Maximum, Normal etc. I am having troubles with my brand new Tascam US-1800 on Windows.
